Survey Invites Feedback on Future State Library Services

     REMINDER-Your Input is Important!

Acting State Librarian Jeffrey W. Cannell invites the library community and library leaders to participate in an online opinion survey about future programs and services of the New York State Library. The survey is posted at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/J6W3BQH  and will be open until 5pm February 1st.

The State Library is conducting a multi-faceted evaluation of New York’s current Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Five Year Plan (2007-2012). Data from this evaluation, along with the far reaching policy recommendations in the Regents Advisory Council on Libraries new 2020 Vision for library services will help inform and shape New York State’s new  LSTA Five Year Plan (2012-2017) as well as a new strategic plan for the State Library.

NYS Three Apples Nomination Deadline Looms

Nominations for the 3 Apples Children's Choice book award close at midnight October, 31, 2011.

The 3 Apples Book Award has been developed to encourage the joy of reading for pleasure, and to give the children of New York State the opportunity to participate in honoring their favorite books.

It is co-sponsored by the Youth Services and School Library Media Sections of the New York Library Association, which together represents the public and school libraries of the state.

Each year children in grades 3-6 (ages 8-12) nominate their favorite book, creating a statewide ballot of fifteen of the most popular titles. After reading or listening to at least three of the nominated books, the children vote to select one as their favorite. That book and its author are honored with the presentation of the 3 Apples Book Award, and celebrations take place across the state in school and public libraries.
