Council

The School Library System Council is established in Commissioner's Regulations 90.18 and works with the SLS governing board (BOCES or Big 5 City Representative) to establish the Plan of Service for the system. The Council meets 4 times a year and is composed of community members, school district representatives, and multiple types of librarians.
Council meetings fall under the guidelines of the Open Meetings law and must follow procedures and By-Laws.
For more information about the role of the Council visit the Overview of Council Responsibilities page on the Division of Library Development website.

*For the purposes of making the most productive use of  time spent outside of the library during the school day, Council meetings are combined with Communication Coordinator meetings. While all issues are open for discussion only Council members are granted voting privileges. All meetings occur in the morning, with a half day professional development session occurring in the afternoon. This eliminates the difficulty faced by our southern-most member libraries of not having sufficient travel time to return to their district to resume afternoon teaching duties.
