American Association of School Librarians (AASL)

The mission of the American Association of School Librarians is to advocate excellence, facilitate change, and develop leaders in the school library media field.

New York Library Association

NYLA is affiliated with the American Library Association as the New York Chapter of that national body. Members of the State Association include librarians of public, system, school, college and university and many special libraries, library trustees, and friends of libraries. From a membership of 43 in 1890, the Association has grown to a vital organization of several thousand members, representing not only the libraries of New York State but also including many members, State and institutional, from all over the United States.

The Association was the first state-wide organization of librarians in the United States. NYLA has always been devoted to the promotion of the library interests of the entire State. It has to its credit a large share in the upbuilding of a notable system of modern libraries throughout the state.
NYS Association for Computers and Technologies in Education

NYSCATE (The New York State Association for Computers and Technologies in Education), is a non-profit, professional organization representing more than 2,000 technology using educators and administrators in New York State. NYSCATE is an affiliate of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), and cooperates with such partners as the New York State Education Department, state and national educational organizations, private sector corporations, and publishers to further the use of technology in our schools. NYSCATE is involved in helping define statewide policy regarding the use of technologies in education. Please read the President's Welcome message to learn more.
NYS Reading Association

The New York State Reading Association is an affiliate of the International Reading Association comprised of more than 30 local reading councils having a total membership of over 2,500 educators from across New York State. The organization includes classroom teachers, librarians, reading specialists, parents, college educators, and researchers.
Each year, educators from across the state come together at the annual conference. Throughout the duration of this conference, there are discussion groups, workshops, and featured speakers from around the country.
In addition to putting on an annual conference, NYSRA has two publications, acts as an advocate for literacy issues, and supports various committees that deal with a variety of issues.

School Library Media Section of NYLA (SLMS)

The purpose of SLMS, organized in 1944, is to lead in advancing the profession; to encourage, promote, and advocate the interest of school library media programs, school library media specialists and school library systems; and to ensure that each student becomes an active reader, responsible information seeker, and critical thinker.
